How it works

How local SEO for healthcare works on Google

When someone searches for a doctor, a dentist or a treatment near them, Google shows a map with three practices above the websites. It picks them on relevance, distance and prominence, and says there is no way to pay for a better local ranking. A practice has its own Business Profile, and so can each doctor or dentist who sees patients there. Healthcare SEO works on relevance and prominence: practice and practitioner profiles set up the way Google's rules describe, and enough real reviews, photos and listings for Google to trust them.

  1. 1

We check your practice the way a new patient would

On a phone, signed out, in the Maps app: the practice profile, the practitioner profiles, the categories, the booking link, the reviews and your replies.

  2. 2

We compare you with the practices above you

We search your main services from your area and look at what the three practices ahead of you do that you don't.

  3. 3

We do the work each month

The profiles, reviews, photos, listings and pages, then a monthly report on calls, booking clicks and direction requests.

What we do

What our healthcare SEO covers each month

The practice profile set up right

Google asks for as few categories as possible, each as specific as possible, and the practice name exactly as it reads on your sign. We set the categories to the care most of your patients come for and keep your hours and phone number right.

  • Categories few and specific
  • Practice name as it reads on your sign
  • Regular and holiday hours kept current

Practitioner profiles that follow Google's rules

Each public-facing doctor, dentist or provider can have a profile with their own name only, beside the practice's profile. Google doesn't allow one for support staff, or several for one practitioner to cover each specialty. We set yours up that way and look at whether each one helps.

  • The practitioner's name only
  • None for support staff
  • One profile per practitioner, not per specialty

Services and a booking link that works

We list the services and treatments patients search for, where your category supports a services list, and add your booking or appointment link, tested on a phone the way a new patient would use it.

  • Services named the way patients search
  • Booking link on the profile
  • Tested on a phone, signed out

Review requests and private replies

We set up review requests that go to every patient the same way after a visit, and reply templates that never confirm someone is a patient or mention their care. No incentives, no asking only the happy patients, and no reviews from your own staff.

  • Requests to every patient after a visit
  • Replies that never confirm who is a patient
  • Nothing that breaks Google's review policy

Photos of your team and rooms

We add photos of your practitioners, rooms, front desk and entrance, so a new patient knows what to expect, and report photos other people added that don't belong there. Patients appear only with their written consent.

  • Your own team and rooms
  • Entrance and parking for first visits
  • Photos that don't belong reported for removal

Listings and location pages

We keep your name, address and phone the same across the directories patients use, and add pages to your website for the neighborhoods you want patients from.

  • Citations on the directories patients use
  • Location pages on your website
  • A monthly report on calls, booking clicks and directions

Free check

See a sample practice profile check

This is what the free check looks like. A person reads your practice and practitioner profiles the way a new patient would, on a phone, and sends the three changes that matter most, in order. The practice in this sample is made up.

  • The three changes first

In order, so you know what to do this week.

  • How to make each one

Written out, with where to find it in your profile.

  • What the practices above you do

The three practices ranking ahead of you for your main service.

  • Privacy risks at the top

A review reply that confirms someone is a patient goes first on the list.

  • No access needed

We check your public profiles. You don't have to add us as a manager.

How we work

How we work

The usual way we work with a healthcare practice. The details are agreed on the call.

No ranking promises

Google says no one can guarantee a top ranking. Where you rank also depends on distance and the practices near you, so we don't promise a position.

Review requests, not a review count

We set up the requests and the reply templates. How many reviews come in depends on your patients.

Inside Google's rules

No fake reviews, no keywords added to your practice's name, no extra profiles for each specialty, and no incentives for reviews.

Patient privacy in every reply

We never need your patient records. Review replies stay general and never confirm that someone is a patient.

You stay the owner

We work as a manager on your profiles. You stay the owner, and we never need your password.

Month to month

No setup fee and no contract. Stop whenever you like.

Fit

Who our healthcare SEO is for, and who it isn't

A good fit

  • Doctors' practices and clinics, dental practices and med spas with a verified Google profile
  • Practices with one practitioner or several, owner-run or part of a group
  • One to ten locations, each staffed during opening hours

Not a fit

  • A suspended profile, which needs a reinstatement first
  • A practice without a verified profile yet
  • A virtual office, which Google doesn't allow a profile for
  • Hospitals and health systems
  • Anyone who wants a guaranteed number one, or reviews they paid for

Healthcare SEO FAQ

Questions healthcare practices ask

What is healthcare SEO?

Healthcare SEO, or medical SEO, is the work that gets a practice found by patients on Google. For a local practice that's mostly the practice and practitioner profiles, reviews, listings and a page on your website for each service and location. Doctors, dentists and med spas each have their own page on this site, because the searches and the rules differ.

How much does healthcare SEO cost?

Our plans start from $499 a month for a practice with one location, month to month, with no setup fee. Professional starts from $1,299 a month for up to 3 locations and Dominate from $3,799 for up to 10. Whether each practitioner's own profile counts toward a plan's profiles is agreed on the call, along with the exact plan and price.

How long does healthcare SEO take?

Profile changes like the categories, the practitioner profiles and the booking link are usually made in the first weeks, though Google may take a few days to review them. Moving up the map usually takes months, and longer in a crowded metro than in a suburb. After the free check we tell you what looks realistic for your area.

Do doctors, dentists and med spas get the same work?

The parts are the same: the profiles, reviews, photos, listings and pages. What changes is the categories, the services patients search for and the rules each kind of practice works under, so each has its own page with the details.

Should each doctor at our practice have their own Google Business Profile?

Google allows one for each public-facing practitioner who can be reached at the practice during their hours, named with the practitioner's name only, beside the practice's own profile. Support staff shouldn't have one, and a practitioner who is the only one at a branded practice usually shares one profile with it. Practitioner profiles help patients who search by name, but they also split reviews across more profiles, so we look at your setup first.

One of our doctors covers several specialties. One profile or one per specialty?

One. Google's guidelines say a practitioner shouldn't have several Business Profiles to cover their specializations. Put the specialties on the doctor's page on your website and, where the profile allows it, in its services.

How do we reply to patient reviews without breaking privacy rules?

Never confirm or deny that the reviewer is a patient, and don't mention their care, dates or anything from their records. Thank them in general terms and invite them to call the office. Google allows a business to give its own contact details in a reply. HHS, which enforces HIPAA, has taken action against practices that disclosed patient information in replies to online reviews. This is general guidance, and your compliance advisor has the final say.

Can we ask every patient for a review?

Yes, as long as every patient is asked the same way. Google doesn't allow incentives for reviews, asking only the patients you expect to be happy, or reviews from your own staff. We set up the requests, and how many reviews come in depends on your patients.

Do you run Google Ads for practices?

Yes. Google Ads management is from $499 a month, month to month, with no setup fee, and ad spend starts from $500 a month, paid to Google on your own card. Health is a sensitive category for Google, so for many treatments ads can't be aimed at your patient list or at people who visited your site, and telehealth, addiction treatment and prescription drug keywords need Google's certification first. The doctors page covers how we run ads for medical practices.

Can you guarantee my practice a top 3 spot?

No. Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, and where you show up also depends on where the person searching is. We do the work inside Google's rules and show you the results in your monthly report.
