Suspension

When Google disables your Google Business Profile, either partially (soft) or completely (hard), usually for a guideline violation.

In plain English

What it actually means.

A suspension is Google's response to a policy violation on your Google Business Profile. There are two flavors. A soft suspension hides your profile from the public but lets you still see and edit it in the dashboard. A hard suspension removes the profile entirely and you lose dashboard access.

Common triggers: keyword stuffing in the business name, using a virtual office or PO Box as the address, adding a category that doesn't match your business, sudden changes to multiple fields at once, fake reviews, or duplicate profiles for the same business.

Recovery is possible but slow. The process is a reinstatement request through Google Business Profile support, with documentation proving your business is legitimate (utility bill, business license, lease, photos). Most reinstatement requests take 7-21 days. About 70% of well-documented requests succeed on the first try. The most common reason for failure is missing or weak proof of address.

Watch out

Common mistakes we see.

  • Making a second reinstatement request before the first is decided. Google rejects them and your case gets harder.
  • Trying to set up a new profile while suspended. The duplicate will also be suspended.
