Google Business Profile Confirm button not working? The workarounds

The Confirm button on your Business Profile dashboard doesn't save your edits. It's a known Google bug. Here are the workarounds that actually get changes through.

You open your Business Profile dashboard, make a small edit to your business hours or service area, click the Confirm button, and nothing happens. The page doesn’t respond. You refresh and the change isn’t saved. You try again. Same result.

This is a recurring failure pattern we see. The Confirm button on the web dashboard intermittently fails to commit changes. There are workarounds, this guide covers the three that work reliably.

What’s actually happening

The bug appears in the new Business Profile editing experience on the desktop web. When you click Confirm:

  • Sometimes the page hangs and the change isn’t saved
  • Sometimes the page seems to save, but on refresh the old value is back
  • Sometimes you get a vague error message
  • Occasionally you get no feedback at all and the change just silently fails

The exact cause varies (some seems to be browser-related, some seems to be Google’s API rate-limiting, some seems to be specific field validations failing silently). What’s consistent is that retrying the same action in the same browser usually doesn’t fix it.

Workaround 1: Skip the Confirm button entirely

Counterintuitive, but it works in many cases. Steps:

  1. Make your edit in the dashboard.
  2. Don’t click Confirm.
  3. Click somewhere else on the page or navigate to a different section of your profile.
  4. Wait 30 seconds.
  5. Reload the page.

The system sometimes auto-saves edits that won’t manually commit. On reload, you’ll see whether the change took effect.

Reports vary on how often this works, but it’s a fast first thing to try.

Workaround 2: Use the Google Maps mobile app

This is the most reliable workaround. In our experience, editing from the mobile app often succeeds when the web Confirm button fails, so it is worth trying when the dashboard won’t save.

Steps:

  1. Download the Google Maps app on your phone (iOS or Android).
  2. Sign in with the same Google account that owns the Business Profile.
  3. Tap your profile picture in the top right.
  4. Tap Your Business Profile.
  5. Find the field you want to edit.
  6. Make the edit and tap Save.

In our experience the mobile app usually saves the change right away. Switch back to the desktop dashboard after saving on mobile to confirm the change is reflected there.

Caveat: not every field is editable in the mobile app. Some advanced fields (service areas, attribute lists, certain business categories) are desktop-only. For those, you may need workaround 3.

Workaround 3: Edit via Google Search directly

Another path that bypasses the dashboard entirely.

  1. Sign into your Google account.
  2. Go to google.com and search for your business by name.
  3. Click on your own business listing in the search results.
  4. The listing card will have edit options if you’re the owner.
  5. Make your edit directly on the search result.

This is a different entry point into your profile and often works when both the dashboard and mobile app fail.

Workaround 4: Different browser, different account, incognito

If the above fail, try:

  • Different browser: Chrome users try Firefox, Safari users try Chrome. Browser extensions sometimes interfere with the dashboard.
  • Incognito / private window: Clears any cached state that might be causing issues.
  • Different network: Sometimes corporate network restrictions interfere with the dashboard’s API calls. Try from a personal device on a home network.
  • Different account on the profile: If you have multiple managers, ask one of the other managers to make the change from their account.

When the bug is field-specific

Sometimes the Confirm button works for most edits but fails consistently for one specific field. Common offenders:

  • Service area: A long list of cities or zip codes can fail to save. Try splitting the change into smaller updates.
  • Business hours for unusual schedules: Multi-shift hours (e.g., open 6am-noon and 4pm-9pm) sometimes don’t save. Try setting one shift first, then adding the second.
  • Categories: Some category changes appear to get caught in Google’s policy review and quietly revert. Verify the category exists and is appropriate.
  • Phone numbers in non-standard formats: Stick to standard formatting (e.g., +1 555-555-5555).
  • Website URLs with tracking parameters: Try the clean URL without UTM tags.

When to file a bug report

If all the workarounds fail and you genuinely can’t save a specific change after a few days of trying, file a bug report.

Go to support.google.com/business/gethelp. Select your business. Describe:

  • The exact field you’re trying to edit
  • The exact change you’re trying to make (before and after)
  • The workarounds you’ve tried
  • Screenshots of the failed save
  • Your browser, OS, and any relevant network details

There is no published turnaround for these tickets and response times vary. Sometimes the support team can push the change through on their end. Other times they confirm the behavior is a bug and escalate it.

Things that don’t help

  • Clicking Confirm 50 times in a row. The bug isn’t fixed by persistence and you may trigger rate-limiting.
  • Clearing all your Google cookies. Won’t fix the bug and will sign you out of everything.
  • Creating a new manager account and trying from there. Doesn’t change the underlying bug.
  • Switching browsers repeatedly. Try one different browser, not all of them in sequence.

The longer-term play

This is a failure pattern we’ve seen recur. It tends to come and go, and in our experience it resurfaces periodically with new variations.

One distinction worth making: if the thing that won’t go through is your verification rather than an edit — you’ve submitted and Google has been “processing” for days — that’s a different failure with different fixes. See what to do when verification is stuck for more than 5 days, or if you’d rather hand the whole thing off, we get profiles verified for you.

The reliable workflow if you edit your profile often:

  1. Default to the mobile app for routine edits. It’s more reliable.
  2. Use the desktop dashboard only for fields the mobile app doesn’t support.
  3. Verify every change by checking the live listing on Google Search and Maps a few hours after saving.

This sounds like more work, but once you’re used to it, it’s faster than fighting the desktop bug.
